REVIEW: Whamisa Organic Flowers Refresh Toner
First of all, I am super excited to be reviewing this beauty! It's been a couple of months since I've started using it and I can say in full confidence that this guy saved my skin when it was parched, dry and dull. I started implementing this product into my skincare routine when I noticed my skin was dehydrated and also I had just started using various acid treatments frequently which also led to some flakiness and dryness. On most days I have combination to oily skin, so I tend to reach for products that are fast absorbing and doesn't leave a sticky film over my face.
So let's give ourselves a second to admire the gorgeous packaging, I mean pastel hues and frosted glass. You've sold me! It comes in a luxurious 120ml solid glass bottle embossed with pretty teal floral prints (prefect addition to your vanity!) I can say it lasted me a good two months of morning and evening usage.
WHAT IS FERMENTED SKINCARE?
There's been alot of buzz regarding fermented skincare and it's been a huge hit across the Korean beauty industry for years with brands now basing their entire product lines on the process of marinating their ingredients for a longer period of time. So to break to down into simpler less sciency terms 'Fermentation' means to enhance the ingredients to increase their nutritional value. In the food world, it is the process of soaking food in salt water because of which good bacteria grows. In terms of skincare, active ingredients are broken down during this fermentation process to allow for easier and faster absorption of the active ingredients through the skin barrier. Fermented yeast is an example of a popular fermented ingredient that has been adopted in Korea and Japan skincare especially in treatment essences.
WHAT IS IT?
Whamisa Organic Flowers Refresh Toner is a hydrating toner that also has the properties of an antioxidant-rich essence. It promises to hydrate and improve skin texture. (I would personally consider it more of a first essence than a toner perse.) It goes on straight after cleansing and before any serums and ampoules.
For anyone unfamiliar with the brand, Whamisa is a Korean brand found in higher-end department stores. The brand places an emphasis on organic, fermented ingredients and produces products that utilize an interesting range of botanical extracts which are free of parabens, synthetics, chemical preservatives, artificial dyes and fragrances, petrochemicals, silicons and mineral oils and animal origin ingredients.

KEY STANDOUT INGREDIENTS:
Aloe Barbadensis (Leaf Extract and Juice)
Aloe is a classic skincare ingredient for very good reason. It contains antioxidant properties with vitamins A, C, and E, fatty acids, as well as anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It also provides humectant moisture. It’s fantastic for soothing inflamed acne, alleviating redness, and countering dryness and dehydration.
Possesses antibacterial, antifungal, and significant anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Contains a number of skin-beneficial nutrients, including ascorbic acid (vitamin C), and beta carotene (a precursor for vitamin A).
Lactobacillus/Nelumbo Nucifera Flower Ferment Filtrate
This is a fermented version of Nelumbo Nucifera, which is better known as the lotus. Lotus has antibacterial, antifungal, and significant anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It also contains naturally occurring alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) which, in a formula with the right pH, provides exfoliation benefits. Whamisa Organic Flowers Refresh Toner has a pH of 4.5, which is low enough for an AHA to function as a mild exfoliator. Lotus extract also has astringent properties, which has the positive effect of making pore size appear smaller.
Used as a hydrating toner with a hybrid function of an essence, the texture is thin and watery with quite a good slip. The flat top dispenser makes it easy to dispense the product (in which you only need an almond sized amount)
Smells alot like aniseed (black liquorice) however the scent quickly dissipates once you apply the product to your skin. The fragrance is also naturally sourced from the ingredients. If you're not into strong fragrances this may not be amazing for you. Whamisa's Organic Flowers Deep Rich Toner (the pink bottle) which is for dry sensitive skin has more of a subtle floral fragrance however is thicker in consistency and is more hydrating on the skin.
Shake the bottle and dispense a dime sized amount onto palm. Gently pat and press the product onto the skin until completely absorbed. Follow with your serums and moisturiser.
After using this essence toner for about two months I noticed that it removes any post- cleansing dryness or tightness and rehydrates your skin prepping it for the next few layers of serums and ampoules. It's light, mildly calming, hydrating and brightens the skin texture. If you're on oily gal like me, you'll appreciate the lightness and fast absorbing consistency. Overall I loved this toner, I felt like it really came to the rescue when I started using retinol products which made my skin super dehydrated. I liked the fact that it gave me the hydration needed without leaving that sticky tacky feeling which I find most hydrating toners tend to do these days. It gave me a beautiful healthy radiant glow making my skin look plump and I found it worked really well with layering products. I have always been a believer in the miracle of fermented ingredients and the benefits it has on the skin so it didn't take me long to fall in love with this product!
